The Transformative Engagement Network (TEN)project is an undertaking by institutions of higher learning in Ireland and Africa in thematic areas of hunger, health and education through collaborative research intended to transform smallholder farming communities. The network is focusing on HUNGER in the context of climate change. The background to this project is the Hunger Envoy Report of 2010 to the Irish Government that showed that knowledge about adapting to climate change and food security is failing to reach those in the developing world who need it most; and that climate change and depletion of natural resources, including land and water, continue to have negative impact on food production in vulnerable areas of Sub-Saharan Africa.
